Unit Outlines

Unit 1 - Transformations

The transformations unit is all about moving objects in the coordinate plane using rigid and non-rigid motions. We will learn about shapes, notation, plotting points, and writing function rules for transformations. Approximate testing window is September 11th through the 16th.

Unit 2 - Quadratics

The quadratics unit is broken into two parts:

Part A involves algebraic manipulation and solving, such as factoring, completing the square, using the quadratic formula, and taking square roots. We will introduce non-real (imaginary) solutions in this unit. Approximate testing window is October 8th through the 13th.

Part B involves exploring the graphical associations with the different forms a quadratic equation can take, such as standard, intercept, and vertex form. You will learn how to write the equation of a function from key points or features of a graph, as well as create a quadratic regression equation from as few as three coordinate points. Approximate testing window is November 5th through the 15th.

Unit 3 - Radical and Rational Functions

In this unit we will work with fractional exponents and power rules. Students will learn how to create an equation from a new function, the square root function, when graphed. Students should also be able to quickly pair an equation with the related graph of that function. Approximate testing window is December 15th through the 18th and may coincide with the midterm exam.

Unit 4 - Similarity and Congruence

Back to Geometry! With a focus on triangles students will determine if conditions allow for two shapes to be classified as congruent or similar. They will compare corresponding sides and angles and use mathematical theorems to prove congruence. We will also explore isosceles and equilateral triangles, and angle relationships which occur when parallel lines are cut by a transversal. Approximate testing window is February 18th through the 23rd.

Unit 5 - Trigonometry

Students will solve problems involving right triangles. We will also explore special right triangles and develop shortcuts for solving without a calculator. This is also a pretty helpful preview of Pre-Calculus concepts! Approximate testing window is March 9th through the 16th.

Unit 6 - Probability

What are the odds? Students will understand independence and conditional probability and use them to interpret data, as well as use the rules of probability to compute probabilities of compound events. Approximate testing window is April 27th through the 30th.
