Online Learning

We have transitioned to online learning. Students have done a wonderful job staying engaged and participating in our Zoom lessons! :) Recorded Zoom Lessons and student's assignments can be found on Canvas. Thank you for your continued support!!

Below is our Online Learning Kindergarten Schedule:

Week of 3/9- 3/13

This week, students continued their study of living and nonliving things and continued their work on on subtraction and addition during math. Students played fun addition/subtraction math games during math small groups.

For our new module, students learned about the importance of trees and how living things depend on trees. During our lab time, students made leaf collages that were added to our classroom tree. Students also planted Lima been seeds and will be observing the plants and watching them grow each week.

Week of 3/2- 3/6

This week, students continued their study of living and nonliving and continued their work on on subtraction, during math.

On Thursday, students shared their Weather Narratives with parents, other students, and staff at the Weather Expo. They worked hard on their stories and did a great job presenting them! Thank you to those who were able to attend!

On Friday, students participated in the Dr. Seuss Book Character Parade and had a great time reading Dr. Seuss Books and making Dr. Seuss related crafts. The students also celebrated being the class with the highest attendance with Donuts! :)

Week of 2/24- 2/28

This was a very exciting week for the Kindergartners! On Wednesday, students had their first field trip to the Children's Theater of Charlotte where they enjoyed a fun and exciting production of GRIMMZ: Fairy Tales. On Thursday Night, students participated in the Black History Museum where they presented their facts about Charles E. Anderson, an influential African American Meteorologist. The students did such an awesome job! :)

This week also marked the start of our new module unit on Trees, where students explore the big ideas that all living things in the natural world have needs in order to survive and grow. On Friday, students went outside for our module lesson to research and observe living and non living things. In math, students continued to work on subtraction.


Week of 2/17- 2/21

This week, students continued to write their weather story and were introduced to subtraction! On Wednesday, the second graders shared their Dinosaur stories with all their Kindergarten buddies :)


Week of 2/10- 2/14

Monday, February 10th, marked the 100th Day of School! It was a very exciting day for the students! We celebrated the day with 100th Day themed stations. The stations included making a snack mix with 100 items, making a necklace with 100 pieces of cereal, building a tower with 100 cups and licking a lollipop 100 times.

This week, students continued to write their weather story and work on addition problems! Friday was another exciting day for students, they celebrated Valentine's Day with all their Kindergarten friends and exchanged valentines.

Thank you to the parents who helped provide snacks and to the Perry's who provided glasses for the whole class. Your support helped in making the day great! :)


Week of 2/3- 2/7

This week, students began to write their very own weather story! In math, students worked in small groups on addition problems and in EL Labs, student continued to work together to complete each lab activity.

The Kindergartners and their second grade buddies worked together to create Valentine's for staff at VHES! :)


Week of 1/27-1/31

This week, students read various weather related books and worked together to act out each story. In math, students were introduced to their new friend, "Mr. Chad Add" and learned all about addition! In EL Labs, a new lab activity wast taught this week -Engineering. Students worked together to design and build a structure that would help protect them from certain kinds of weather.


Our EL Skills Friday Lessons: Live Spelling!

Week of 1/21-1/23:

During this short week, the students continued their study of weather and continued to learn about how weather affects people. Each day, during EL labs, students have rotated and participated in the 3 different lab activities: Create, Imagine and Research. In math, students took the MAPS assessment and completed a learn check.

On Wednesday, all the kindergartners came together again to work with their second grade buddies! On Thursday, students celebrated their great behavior during Quarter 2 at the End of Quarter Behavior Celebration. The Kindergartners danced, played games and ate lots of cotton candy :)

Students participated in a Role Play Activity, pretending to be the characters and acting out the main events.

Week of 1/13-1/17:

This week the students continued their study of weather and learned how weather affects people, how they feel, what they do, and what they wear. In math, students continued to identify whether the number of objects in one group is greater than, less than, or equal to the number of objects in another group.

On Wednesday, all the kindergartners came together to work with their second grade buddies! On Friday, Kindergarten participated in a Dentist Presentation, where they learned all about the Dentist and what to expect when they go. Thursday was an extra exciting day because it was a beautiful day outside and the students earned extra recess at the end of the day :)

Week of 1/6-1/10:

Happy New Year!! This was such a great first week back to school! :) The students have done a wonderful job remembering our class routines and procedures. The smaller class size has already provided them with awesome learning opportunities.

This week, students finished up their study of weather around the word and continued to compare two sets to determine which was greater, less than or equal. On Friday, students played a greater/less than game and did a great job working together!

Week of 12/16-12/20:

This was our last week as a class of 24! It was certainly a week filled of excitement, anticipation, and celebration :) In ELA, students learned about the weather around the world and engaged in holiday read aloud and activities. In math, students compared objects and identified which was greater, less than, or equal to.

On Friday, the kindergartners were comfy and cozy in their pajamas ready for break! In the morning, students had their House Meeting's where they engaged in holiday activities. We had our Winter Celebration at the end of the day, where the students had lots of food and fun. Thanks again to our Room Moms for helping to organize and all of the parents who helped with the festivities. I appreciate all of your support!

I am so grateful for such a lively group of students who always keep me on my toes, it was a very exciting 2019 school year and I look forward to the new year. Enjoy your break and see you next year! :)

This week our secret student was Liam!

Week of 12/9-12/13:

This week, students worked on writing different weather facts that they will present to Principal Fullington and other staff members on Monday. In math, students continued work on finding the two parts that make a whole.

Students made a poster of themselves with their second grade buddy on Thursday morning and on Thursday night, the Kindergartners rocked it out at their Holiday musical performance. They all did an awesome job singing Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and sang their hearts out :) On Friday we celebrated our wonderful teaching assistant, Ms.Fulton and had a little party for her last day. We will miss her and we are so grateful for everything she has done for our class!

This week our secret student was Karter!

Week of 12/2-12/6:

This week, we continued our module unit on weather. Students learned all about Rainbows and created a Rainbow Fact Craft. In math, students continued to work on finding the two parts that make up a whole.

On Friday for morning work the students worked together to put together a puzzle. They showed great teamwork! :)

This week our secret student was Mikah!

Week of 11/25-11/29:

These two days before Thanksgiving Break were filled with excitement and fun! On Monday, students attended a program where they learned all about Coral Reefs. Students continued to learn about weather and learned about the three different kinds of clouds. In math, student continued finding the two parts that make up a whole. Students also discussed their Thanksgiving Day traditions, read the book, "Turkey Trouble" and created their own turkey disguises.

Students worked together to become a stratus cloud.

Week of 11/18-11/22:

This week, we continued our module unit on weather. Students worked together to create a anchor chart of the 4 things that make up the weather. Students also engaged in "science talk," where they discussed rainy and sunny weather. They learned facts about the sun and clouds and made sunny and cloudy landscapes during their lab time. In math, students are working on finding the two parts that make up a whole.

This week our secret student was London!

Week of 11/12-11/15:

This week, we continued our module unit on weather. Students engaged in two experiments where they learned about and observed how rain is formed and learned how to use and read a thermometer. In math, students learned how to add one more to a set of objects and how to take one away.

This week our secret student was Michael!

Week of 11/4-11/8:

This week, we started our second Module Unit- Learning through Science and Story: Weather Wonders. Students are learning the components of weather and developing a rich bank of words and scientific concepts.

On Friday, the students could not contain their excitement for the three day weekend! :)

This week our secret student was Heaven!

Week of 10/28-11/1:

This week, during EL Labs, the students created their own toys out of recycled materials. The students did a wonderful job presenting and describing their favorite toy to their classmates during our EL Module Lesson! On Wednesday, they got to meet their second grade buddy and do a fun activity with them!

On Halloween, some students walked in the Book Character parade and got to show off their awesome costumes! We had a fall celebration in our classroom after where students got to socialize, eat festive food, color, and watch a Halloween show.

Week of 10/21-10/25:

This week in math students continued their unit on measurement. Students compared the capacity of objects and how much a container could hold. In EL Labs, students were architects, creating their own buildings and towers.

On Friday, students celebrated their good behavior at the Behavior Celebration filled with fun games and activities!

This week our secret student was Cassidy!


Week of 10/14-10/18:

This week in math students learned about measurement. Students compared the length and weight of objects and drew a picture of their family comparing family members height.


Week of 10/7-10/11:

This week we learned about how to describe the way toys move. Students learned various action words and played with toy cars and balls.

This week our secret student was Treyvon!


Week of 9/30-10/4:

This week we learned about 2D shapes. We read the book "Shape by Shape" and students created a Dinosaur using the different kinds of shapes.

This week our secret student was Everett!


Week of 9/23-9/27:

This week we engaged in the discovery of pumpkins! Students learned all about pumpkins and how to describe there size, color, texture, shape. In ELA, we read about pumpkins and in science, we dissected a pumpkin and felt the inside of it. We even performed an experiment and discovered if pumpkins sink or float!

This week our secret student was Logan!

Week of 9/16-9/20:

This week we engaged in the discovery of toys and play! We read books about play and toys and students used their imagination to create boxes into something magical :)

This week our secret student was birthday girl, Breaja!

Week of 9/9-9/13:

Friday was a very exciting day for the Kindergarteners! Students received new backpacks and school supplies from our favorite football team, the Carolina Panthers! Go Panthers!

This week our secret student was Kamiyah!
