Grading Practices:
Prepare: 20%
1. Prepare assignments will include smaller assignments that allow students to practice new learning. Can be graded for completion or accuracy.
2. Students will be given a minimum of 5 (5) Prepare grades each quarter.
Rehearse: 30%
1. Rehearse Assignments will be culminating/formative assessments that measure mastery of one or multiple standards (i.e. Unit assessments, common assessments, performance tasks, writing assignments, projects with rubrics)
2. Students will be given a minimum of 4 (4) Rehearse grades each quarter.
Perform - 50%
1. Perform assignments will account for 50% of the student’s grade. These assessments include a variety of assignments such as tests, comprehensive writing assignments, major quizzes and/or projects.
2. Students will be given a minimum of 3 (3) formal grades each quarter.
Make Up/ Late Work Make Up Work:
1. A student who misses the due date for homework assignments or other assignments due to absences, (whether excused or unexcused) will be allowed to make up the work.
2. Arrangements for completing the work should be made within five (5) school days of the date of the student’s return to school and include a schedule for completion of the work
3. Teachers will be allowed 24 hours to provide make up work.
Late Work:
1. Homework and other assignments will be accepted, even if turned in after the designated date.
2. Students will receive an initial score of zero (0) for an assignment or assessment on which he/she made no attempt or which is missing.
3. Credit for late work shall be awarded according to the following guidelines:
a. If the student was present in class on the due date, the work will be penalized 10% per school day;
b. If the student was not present in class on the due date because of an excused absence, full credit will be given for the completed work; and
c. If the student was not present in class on the due date because of an unexcused absence, the work will be penalized 10% per school day.
NOTE: Teachers will post/record make-up work and late work within 10 days of the date the assignment is submitted.
Parent and Student Responsibilities:
1. Parents and students are encouraged to check student progress on a regular basis through PowerSchool.
2. Clarification of grades can be obtained through the teacher of record.
3. Log-in information for PowerSchool can be obtained through the Data Manager.
4. Ensure that students are completing their own work and not “copying” work from other sources (including plagiarism).
NOTE: Northridge’s staff will follow the consequences for “cheating” as outlined in the CMS Code of Conduct. This does include students receiving a zero for the assignment until further arrangement with parents can be made.
