MRS. HINKLE’S FIRST GRADE INFORMATION

COMMUNICATION

The best way to communicate with me is by email. My email is jilll.hinkle@cms.k12.nc.us. My email has 3 l’s in it, not 2. I will respond to emails as quickly as possible.

Newsletters will be emailed, as well as posted on my website. My website is https://sites.google.com/cms.k12.nc.us/mrshinklesclass  You can find information there about our classroom.

I will be happy to meet with you about any of your concerns throughout the year. Please email me to schedule a conference. Due to the high level of assistance that young ones need in the classroom, and to give your concern the undivided attention it deserves, I will be unable to hold “impromptu” conferences when dropping off/picking up students, or at lunch.

Daily Communication Folders should go to and from school each day. There is a “Keep at Home” and a “Return to School” side.

ATTENDANCE & TRANSPORTATION

Morning carpool will occur at the front entrance/circle of the school. Students will not be allowed into the building until 7:45. At 7:45, students will report to their classrooms.  Announcements begin at 8:15. Students arriving after 8:15 are tardy and must be signed in in the office by a parent. Please keep in mind that your child is missing valuable instructional time when they come in after 8:15.

Please send a note or email when your child is going to be absent. If your child is sick, please keep them home. This will be an excused absence.

I am not able to send a child home a different way without written permission. If there is a transportation change, please send me an email, or a note in your child’s folder. If you have a transportation change and our school day has already started, please notify the office (980-343-6725), and they will notify me of the change. You may also fill out a Transportation Change Form on https://sharonschoolpta.org/ride/.

BEHAVIOR

Schoolwide Plan: Sharon School is a Positive Discipline school. We believe in the philosophy that children react best to positive situations and reinforcement, and they thrive in an environment where they create the rules their “class family” should abide by. We believe that there are consequences for every action, positive or negative, depending on the choices that we make as individuals. We encourage our students to make good choices in order to reap positive consequences. Please reinforce making good choices at home. Your support makes a huge difference in the classroom! We offer many teachable moments for children to learn how to solve problems on their own, and be in control of their own destiny by making good choices.

Classroom Plan: Our classroom behavior plan is designed around Class Dojo. Students have the opportunity to celebrate success by earning dojo points OR the opportunity to refresh and reflect when they need a reminder of classroom expectations (losing dojo points). I strongly encourage you to download the Class Dojo app and keep track of your child's behavior throughout the year. This will be a very helpful tool in keeping in communication with each other.

Incentives: Once your child earns 20 Dojo Points, they will get to go to our class prize box! If you would like to donate items to go into our prize box, take a look at our Amazon Class Wishlist!

SNACK

You will need to send in a snack for your child to have each afternoon. Please make sure that these snacks are healthy choice snacks. If the snack you send in requires utensils (fruit cups, applesauce) please send those in as well. If we have allergies in our class this year, please be mindful of these allergies when sending in snacks. If you would like to send in snacks for us to keep in the classroom in the event that someone forgets snack, that would be greatly appreciated.

LUNCH & BREAKFAST

Breakfast will be available from 7:45-8:15 each morning. If your child plans to eat breakfast, please ensure they arrive at school with enough time to eat, keeping in mind the school day begins at 8:15.

Each child will receive an account number where their money will be banked. You may pay online where you can check account balances or view purchase history at www.paypams.com or send in a lump sum to be debited throughout the week/month/year. Your child will be responsible in keeping up with their money. The cafeteria accepts cash as well as checks made payable to Sharon School. Your child will input their number in the cafeteria system at each meal, as it will be debited accordingly. If your child is deficient in funds, they will not be denied lunch. However, the account will still be debited. You will receive a letter and that amount will be later subtracted when money is deposited.

BIRTHDAYS

If you would like, you may bring a birthday treat for the class to enjoy at the end of the year. Birthday treats will be passed out at 2:30. You may also choose to have lunch with your child and we can celebrate them then! (11:15-11:40)

Birthday treats must be store-bought with ingredients clearly listed. Please be sure to bring a single item and no drinks, please. Please notify me ahead of time if you are planning on bringing in a birthday treat.

Birthday invitations cannot to be distributed at school. Please refer to the Sharon School directory for addresses, emails, phone numbers, etc. to obtain information for your child’s classmates. We cannot, by law, distribute any child’s information to you.

SCHOLASTIC

I will send Scholastic flyers home once a month. If you haven't ordered from Scholastic before, please consider doing so this year. Their book prices are very reasonable and the quality is excellent. I do ask that you place your orders online, as opposed to sending a check to school. Please use our class code to help us earn free books for our classroom! It is L6XJV
