My name is Jean Berrier-Tate and I am a school psychologist with Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools. I currently serve as staff psychologist for both Reedy Creek Elementary and Joseph W. Grier Academy. I have worked at Reedy Creek since 1986 and have worked at J.W. Grier since 2009. Prior to coming to CMS, I worked in Alleghany County (Sparta) and Rowan County Schools.

Although I was born in Lorain, Ohio, my parents were N.C. natives and moved back south as soon as my dad could find a job ( for anyone familiar with Lorain, lake effect snow is brutal). I lived in Raleigh during my early years, but grew up mostly in Charlotte. I attended Ranson (Jr. High in those days) and North Mecklenburg High School - go Vikings! I completed my undergraduate and graduate studies in lovely Boone, N.C at Appalachian State University and still love to visit!! I also attended UNC-Charlotte where I obtained a school counselor licensure. I am a member of the North Carolina School Psychologist Association (NCSPA) and Metrolina Association of Psychologist in the Schools ( MAPS).

I am married and have two daughters. (Both of whom attended Reedy Creek in elementary school). My older daughter is currently working as a social worker in Washington D.C. My younger daughter just graduated from NC State, where she double majored in Environmental Science and Plant Biology. My husband just retired from CMS and is playing golf, doing yard work, and getting some much needed rest. I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, watching documentaries, and history. I love sports, especially basketball and football. I am a big college basketball fan and pull for the Wolfpack of NC State! ( My husband is a Duke fan, so when they play each other, we watch in separate rooms. )

I enjoy getting to know the students and families at my schools and helping students overcome barriers to their learning. I always try to treat the children I work with as I would want someone to treat my own children. I have loved watching former students grow and achieve, and I love when they come back to visit!!
