Self Portrait

For these next two weeks we are going to focus on our selves! Doing this by creating a self portrait. Did you know that your face is proportionate? What does that mean?? It means your nose is the perfect size for your face and it means your eyes are as far apart as close together as they need to be for your eyebrows, nose and mouth to fit together to make you! Here is how you make a self portrait... Look at the images, or watch my video!

Start by making an UPSIDEDOWN egg shape, (yes that's an oval, but think about an egg.. one side is larger than the other and that larger side is the part sitting IN the egg carton. Now think about your head, your brain is at the top making it bigger than your chin.

Now we need to start focusing on how to make our face proportionate. This is a line of SYMMETRY. Symmetry is having equal sized items on each side. So if an eye is on the left side of your face, it also has to be on the right.

This line does not have a name, but it is a horizontal line that goes directly across your face to assist you with the placement of eyes and ears!

Now.. lets start with your eyes, did you know they are the shape of a football?! The first curve goes on the top of the horizontal line.

Now draw the under side of the football, under the horizontal line, completing your eye shape.

For the colorful part of your eye, called the Iris. Draw a circle that touches the top and bottom part of your football shape.

The pupil is the black dot inside your eye. It goes in the center.

For eyelids, draw a thin line the follows the top of your eye from one side to another.

Moving on to the nose, draw a little smile shape right in between your eyes and your chin.

Place a bump on either side of the tiny smile

Now draw a letter C on the left

And a backwards letter C on the right (or a letter D without the straight line)

On one side draw a curve from one side of your nose going up towards your eyes

Don'f forget the nostrils! draw a little curve under each side of your nose so you can breath!

Moving on to the mouth... Draw a little smile or wide V right in between your nose and your chin.

Now directly under that, draw a little curve.

Attached to the top line, draw out the rest of your top lip, going from one side then the other.

Now starting from the left draw a curve going under the middle little smile and connect to the top lip. This makes your bottom lip.

Now draw a line on each side of the middle line going into the crease of your mouth.

Moving on to the eyebrows. Draw a diagonal line pointing toward the line of symmetry above your eyes.

Now draw a curve on the bottom of them extending it out just passed your eye

Do the same for the top of your diagonal lines and make a point finishing your eyebrows

Now for the ears. Starting at this Horizontal line, curve up.

Curve around and go down...

and curve under and connect the line back to your face at your top lip. (Your ears really are that big!)

Do the other side...

Now for the neck... Place your finger directly under your ear

and draw a line going down.. but not to the bottom of the paper.

Do the other side

Now give your self shoulders (make diagonal lines that go to the side of the paper, not the corners) and then give your self a shirt line (or neck line)

Now.. Follow the images for your hair line.. you have options.. This one is my hairline.

This is your hairline if you have a bun or ponytail.

This hairline is similar to getting lines at a barber..

Curly or wavy boy hair cut

Girls wavy hair down

Hair in a bun or ponytial.
