End of Year Kindergarten Expectations

At the end of the year, your child will be able to:

  • Recognize and name all upper and lowercase letters
  • Produce all letter sounds
  • Recognize at least 80 sight words (please refer to the big 100 sight word list that was sent home at the beginning of school)
  • Read grade level texts fluently (read a level C or higher)
  • Draw, talk, or write to help me explain something by telling the topic and details about it
  • write a complete sentence (by sounding out words)
  • Count to 100 by ones and tens.
  • Recognize and write numerals 0-20
  • Touch and count objects to 20
  • Fluently add and subtract numbers 0-5
  • Solve addition and subtraction word problems within 10
  • Make numbers up to 20 in more than one way
  • Compare numbers and tell which is more or less
  • Observe daily weather and changes in weather
  • Explain how families have needs and wants
