Mrs. Dameron

I have taught for 20+ years (14 at HES) and have earned my Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Elementary Education and my Academically/Intellectually Gifted certification. I have two children who are former HES Bulldogs! Austin is a 2023 graduate of The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Karsyn is a junior at North Carolina State University.  Austin double majored in Economics and Psychology with a minor in Business and was inducted into Phi Betta Kappa.  Karsyn has returned from studying abroad on the NCSU Prague campus and loves being a part of the Wolfpack!  She plays on the NCSU Field Hockey Club team.  Austin played for 4 years on the Hough Lacrosse team and was a Co-Captain, was an officer in the Key Club and was a Junior Marshal. Karsyn was a four year member of the Hough Field Hockey team and was a member of Key Club. In 2018 Karsyn earned her Girl Scout Silver Award and Austin earned his Boy Scout Eagle Award. I am a very proud mom! My family attends CIC Lutheran Church where I serve on the Preschool Board and a few summers ago we pitched in to help our church build a Habitat for Humanity house (checked off a bucket list item :) . We are members of the Rams Club and enjoy cheering on the Tar Heels football team in Kenan Stadium every fall!  I enjoy relaxing in my hammock with a good book or magazine,  going to Cannonballers games, cross-stitching and being out on the lake in our boat affectionately named Teacher's Pet! 

Over the years I have served on the Hough High School Leadership Team and various HES school committees, hosted a UNCC Student Teacher for a semester, founded the HES Writing Club and STEM Club, been a principal-designated mentor to new teachers, taught the HES Math Olympiad Club, and taught K, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grades. I am always a member of our wonderful PTA! I have received several grants which you can read about on my Grants page. I have led a workshop for teachers at the NCAEYC conference. In a former district I was chosen by my Elem. Educ. DIrector to co-teach a summer ESL program and pilot a Social Studies curriculum and train teachers on how to implement it.
