I was born in Durham, North Carolina, but I've lived here in Charlotte for most of my life. I attended Beverly Woods Elementary School, South Charlotte Middle School, and Providence Senior High School. After graduating from Providence, I attended Winston-Salem State University, and after two years, I transferred to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. After graduating, I completed some post-baccalaureate studies in the area of Public Administration at North Carolina Central University. Feeling a nagging desire for change, I decided to embark upon a journey to become an educator.
I received my teaching license after completing the licensure program at both Central Piedmont Community College and Eastern Carolina University. I began my career as an 8th grade Language Arts teacher at James Martin Middle School in November of 2001 and taught there for 16 years. In the fall of 2017, I began teaching at McClintock Middle School.
The "National Honor Roll's Outstanding American Teachers" program was developed to recognize educators who have made a positive difference in the lives of their students. "National Honor Roll" firmly believes that the future is in the hands of our children and that teachers, who help their students reach their full potential, make the single greatest contribution to society. In 2005, I was humbled by being nominated by one of his former students and inducted into this fellowship.
In 2007, I was again humbled when the student body voted me "Favorite Teacher of the Year."
For the 2008-2009 school year, I was voted "James Martin Middle School Teacher of the Year." I was invited to the "CMS Emmy Program" held at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center on April 20, 2009 to formally receive this award.
For the 2012-2013 school year, I was again voted "James Martin Middle School Teacher of the Year" and was invited to Phillp O. Berry High school for a recognition program.
For the 2013-2014 school year, I was again voted "James Martin Middle School Teacher of the Year," but this time I moved on to become a FINALIST for "CMS Teacher of the Year." Even though I didn't end up winning, it was an unforgettable experience.
In 2016, I (along with four of my colleagues) was recognized as a "Beacon Initiative Indispensable Educator!"
For the 2023-2024 school year, I was voted "McClintock Middle School Teacher of the Year" and was invited to the Halton Theater (CPCC) to formally receive the award
Each of these awards are very special to me. Although I am not involved in education for recognition, I feel honored to have made an impact in someone's life. I consider himself connected to the most significant and influential occupation in the world.
I got married in the summer of 2001, and together, we have four children, all unique and special in their own right.
I've always been a sports fanatic, particularly basketball and football. I was the head coach of the 2004-2005 James Martin boys basketball team. We finished with a 12-0 record, clinching the Northern League Championship!
