Grading Practices
There will be three areas that students will be graded by:
1st- Prepare
§ Prepare will account for 20% of the students grade. These are smaller assignments that allow students to practice their new learning. Examples of these assignments are homework, warm-ups, exit tickets, notebook checks, and class participation.
2nd- Rehearse
§ Rehearse will account for 30% of the students grade. This will be in the form of different assignments that provide students with feedback on their progress towards mastery of a standard. Examples of these assignments are quizzes, labs, mini-assessments, mini-projects, classwork, and group work.
3rd- Perform
Perform will account for 50% of the students grades. This will be a combination of different culminating and formative assignments that measure mastery of one or multiple standards. This will include unit/common assessments, performance tasks, comprehensive writing assignments, and projects

NOTE: Teachers will post/record make-up work and late work within 10 days of the date the assignment is submitted.
Parent and Student Responsibilities:
1. Parents and students are encouraged to check student progress on a regular basis through PowerSchool.
2. Clarification of grades can be obtained through the teacher of record.
3. Log-in information for PowerSchool can be obtained through the Data Manager.
4. Ensure that students are completing their own work and not “copying” work from other sources (including plagiarism).
NOTE: Northridge’s staff will follow the consequences for “cheating” as outlined in the CMS Code of Conduct. This does include students receiving a zero for the assignment until further arrangement with parents can be made.
Progress Report Grades:
CMS requires teachers notify parents periodically of students’ progress. The Mid-Quarter Progress Report is to be used as one of these notifications. All teachers are required to send progress reports home for all students on designated days. Teachers are also required to make a phone call and/or email with a response to the parents of students who have a “D” or an “F”, or who have a dramatic change in grades or attendance. (This communication should be more than a signed progress report.) A list of potential failures should be sent to the appropriate counselor and GLA after the progress reports are issued. Progress reports should be returned to the teacher with a parent signature. If they are not returned, teachers are responsible for making additional parent contact and following up with appropriate consequences.
