Greetings! I am Catherine Miller and I am thrilled to be the science teacher for the 7th grade Panthers team here at Ridge Road Middle School. I did not discover my love for science until I was in college studying to be a teacher as a second career. My math professor suggested I take an introduction to chemistry course because I was always questioning the processes behind the results. I will be forever grateful to Dr. Blau as he was THAT teacher who ignited my passion for science.
I became a teacher because my kids were coming home from school discussing topics that I knew nothing about. I could not contribute to conversations they were having at the dinner table. From the 27 amendments to the constitution, to the internal organs of a baby pigs, to the memorization of all the helping verbs, I could only sit back, listen and learn. That is when I decided that although I did not take advantage of getting a college degree when I was younger that it was never too late. I have not regretted that decision.
In the classroom, I am a teacher who focuses on meeting the students where they are at in the learning process. None of us follow the same path to learning; I personalize the student’s needs and will hold the student and myself accountable for growth. My door is open for tutoring before and after school and my line of communication offers a quick turnaround via e-mail, phone, or personal conferencing with the parents/guardians. I look forward to taking our Ravens on a flight that WILL BE higher than the rest.
