CMS CogAT Testing
2nd Grade - Each 2nd grade student within the general education setting in CMS is provided with the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) and the Gifted Rating Scales (GRS), an observational checklist. If certain criteria is met through the CogAT, students will then move on to the Iowa assessment (an achievement test). A portfolio opportunity is available if students meet certain criteria as well.
This year's 2nd Grade CogAT will be scheduled toward the end of September or the beginning of October. More information will be communicated to parents.
3rd - 5th Grade
Students may be considered for rescreening by the district after a period of at least 24 months has passed AND if they have data from to support rescreening.
Any student with a currently active CogAT cannot take the CogAT again until the 24 month period has passed. However, if they have an active CogAT with potentially qualify scores and qualifying EOG data from the previous school year. They may be considered for a data review in their current grade level.

"Academically and Intellectually Gifted (AIG) and advanced learners are served through the Elementary Talent Development (TD) Catalyst Model. The overall goal of the TD Catalyst Model is to provide inclusive services for gifted and advanced learners to best support their growth, academic achievement, and social-emotional needs. Gifted education is a shared responsibility between TD teachers and classroom teachers.
This inclusive framework is implemented at each CMS elementary school."
