Your child will begin bringing a reading passage home weekly. We have been discussing the importance of annotating and learning strategies for annotating when reading a nonfiction passage or article.

Each week, the reading passage will reflect the standard that we have been working on the previous week and/or the current week. What work is not finished in class will be expected to be finished as homework as this will be a graded assignment.

There will be a quiz 2 days following when the reading passage comes home. For now, the schedule is as follows:

Tuesday- First read in class – discuss vocab (homework )

Wednesday –homework

Thursday – Quiz (these will be 3-4 questions )

Your child brought home a reading passage home on Tuesday as homework. We have been working on finding the main idea/central idea in each paragraph and the key details when reading nonfiction. We have also been working on strategies for annotating when reading that include:

Reading 3 or more times

*1^st read is to look for unknown or new vocabulary

*2^nd read is to identify the main/central idea of each

Paragraph/section or chapter

*3^rd read is to identify the key details that relate to the

Main/central idea

They should write the main idea of each paragraph with some key details on the back on the paper or on a separate sheet of paper. They will be permitted to use this on the quiz.
