Helpful Kindergarten Information

Arrival: If you walk your student into the school, please say a quick goodbye at the door. Your child is building independence and responsibility.

Lunch: Please let us know if your child has any food allergies. Please be mindful of sugar-laced foods and limit them. Please pack child-friendly containers – your child needs to be able to open and close everything in their lunch.

Parents/relatives are invited to come in occasionally to have lunch with a student. Please limit your visits to specials occasions, such as birthdays. Thank you.

All students have a lunch account. Money can be added to the account via the CMS website.

Birthdays: Please feel free to send in or bring in a store-bought treat, such as cookies or cupcakes for your child’s birthday. Birthday treats can be passed out to the class during the last 10 minutes of lunch. Please check with your child’s teacher about any food allergies in the class, and lunch time. Please do not bring balloons or other gifts into the school. Thank you.

Behavior: Dilworth Elementary uses the Love and Logic philosophy. The philosophy states that adults set limits for children in a caring way and adults empathize with children’s feelings. Adults set limits without anger, lectures, threats, or repeated warnings. Love and Logic encourages teaching children to solve problems. When children cause problems, adults hand these problems back in loving ways. In order to foster this environment in the classroom and in the school, our Kindergarten team uses various forms of “Token Economy”. Examples are, Class Dojo, a marble jar, punch cards, etc. A token economy is a form of behavior modification designed to increase desirable behavior and decrease undesirable behavior with the use of tokens. Individuals receive tokens immediately after displaying desirable behavior. The tokens are collected and later exchanged for a meaningful object or privilege. Please see your individual teacher to find out how things are done in your child’s classroom

Volunteer: Please register on the CMS website in order to volunteer in the classroom. https://www.cmsvolunteers.com/ Thank you.

Fostering Independence for your Student: You will have many opportunities to visit the school and we look forward to your involvement in the Dilworth Dragon community. We would like to kindly ask you to NOT do these things:

  • Please refrain from picking your child up and carrying him/her while on the school grounds.
  • Please also respect the school expectations when you are visiting. Example: If a class is walking in the hallway, the expectation is for the students to be silent. Please do not walk with the class and chat with the students.
  • If you visit for lunch, please say your goodbyes in the cafeteria as the class exits.
  • Recess is for students only. Please do not come on to the playground during recess.

Thank you for trusting our experience. We look forward to working together to ensure the best educational experience for your child.
