Marva Hutchinson, English Department Chair, holds a BS in English from Appalachian State University, a MA in English from UNC Charlotte, a Master of School Administration from Queens University, and National Board Certification in Adolescent Young Adult/English Language Arts. Ms. Hutchinson has taught in CMS for thirty-one years, and twenty-nine of those years have been here at Providence where she currently teaches AP English Language and Composition, Creative Writing and Literary Magazine. She also serves as adviser to the nationally recognized literary magazine Roars and Whispers. Ms. Hutchinson also holds a number of state and national offices. As the NC State Director, Ms. Hutchinson serves as a member of the national board of the Journalism Education Association and as Lead Judge for Literary Magazine Design in the JEA National Write-off Contests. As a member of the Executive Board for the NC Scholastic Media Association, Ms. Hutchinson serves as both Vice-President for Literary Magazine and the Director of the Literary Magazine strand in the NC Summer Institute at UNC Chapel Hill.
