My name is Chee Chee Drusin and I teach any who wish to learn.
I use the genius and ingenuity of Visual Arts, its media, and materials as my tools. I instruct students to use critical and creative thinking to solve problems posed in class and in life. My medium of choice is Ceramics to help me teach these skills. I allow the ideas to come from the students for the process or technique introduced. Artistic Choice allows me to meet the student where they are. It allows the student to embrace discomfort, challenge themselves, and become resilient and reflective with each idea they work through. It allows for a more diverse work from students rather than having all the projects look alike or like the example.
This course will teach not only clay-building skills but skills needed for life. With each successive work, students will challenge and show growth, organized thought, and planning in each problem they approach and solve.
Teaching students to think and act with a studio mindset and develop Artistic Thinking Behaviors allows them to take charge of their own education. This entails envisioning a goal/work, researching and planning for the goal/work, making and maintaining materials, tools, and a studio to create the work, refining the final work, reflecting on the process and outcome of their work, and then sharing their product. Through this process, students are growing in the knowledge that the end work they now hold and share was recently just an idea. Growing these skills, there will be no end to what they can achieve.
Don't worry you won't be taking this journey alone, I'll be continuing my journey with you.
