Letter Recognition

To master letter recognition, students needs to be able to consistently demonstrate the following skills:

• identify all lowercase and uppercase letters, when the letter appears by itself, in different placements in a word or a line of letters. Students who only know the letters when they are in abc order have not mastered letter knowledge

• Match the lowercase letter to the uppercase letter

• identify the sound(s) the letter makes

• match the sound the letter makes to the correct letter
