Here is an optional activity you could do during our remote learning day!

K-2Listen to a recycling story and create a craft from a water bottle!

Listen to this story:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtTu_MEV3ww

Make a craft using a Recycled Water Bottle or any plastic bottle.  You could draw a picture of it first and even if you don't have time to make it, you could share your picture with Mrs. Maples next week!  Visit this website for some great ideas!  https://www.playideas.com/plastic-bottle-crafts-for-kids/

Grades 3 - 5 Read Nonfiction articles about recycling and create a craft from a water bottle!

Did you ever drink water out of a plastic bottle? Did you wonder what that water bottle could be turned into when you recycle it? If a plastic bottle is clear, it can usually be remade into new water bottles. Companies are also turning plastic bottles into clothing, carpets, pillows, and even clamshell packages. But scientists have discovered a new way to “recycle” plastic bottles. When a laser is focused on bits of PET plastic (the kind in bottles), it heats the plastic and increases the pressure. This causes a very tiny diamond to form. It works because plastics and diamonds are both formed from Carbon. The heat and pressure rearrange the structure of the Carbon atoms. What could the diamonds be used for? Well, that’s what researchers are still working on. For now, it’s another forward step for recycling. Turn a plastic bottle that you have at home into something else.  Bring it to school to show Mrs. Maples next week or take a picture and email it to Mrs. Maples at lisa.maples@cms.k12.nc.us.  Visit this website for some great ideas:  https://www.playideas.com/plastic-bottle-crafts-for-kids/
