E-STEM @ Whitewater Middle School
E-STEM at Whitewater Middle stands for Environment, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.. We explore ideas and possibilities by combining the design process and scientific method. Our mission is to creates self-aware and socially conscious leaders who think critically, communicate confidently, and act sustainably.
Our belief is that our students are creative revolutionaries who as critical thinkers and empathetic citizens create solutions for a better world.
When accepted into the program we expect high student engagement as we push for both creative and critical thinking. We challenge students to become innovators, problem solvers, and designers.
Our Verizon Learning Lab is a hands on lab where students are able to learn and create. Students will experience innovative instruction in all core subjects in classes and will apply problem solving processes of engineering design, design thinking and computational thinking to solve real world problems. This important area of our school community brings innovation to life with technology and everyday items.
Electives
PLTW: Automation and Robotics
PLTW: Carpentry
Computer Science Discoveries
PTLW: Design and Modeling
PLTW: Engery and the Environment
PTLW: Green Architecture
PLTW: Science of Technology
PLTW: Space and Flight
Want to know what our Innovation Lab has to offer?
Both technologies are known for their enriched experience that brings together a virtual world and the real one with enhanced 3-D visuals.
Students will easily learn programming and coding in science, math, music and art, complete hands-on activities, and share creations with the WMS community.
Students can create a three dimensional object layer-by-layer using a computer created design.
Students will learn the basics of robotics, coding and programming.
Students have access to this entry-level machine for making and designing signs banners and advertisements to cut them out with precision.
Our laser cutter create patterns and designs by cutting into materials including metals and wood. Students will be able to put their engineer skills to use by using the powerful laser beams.

To apply for a seat at our magnet schools for the next school year, students must participate in the upcoming School Choice lottery. Current and new CMS students can apply. See deadline dates below.
Applications are available on the CMS School Choice
website at cmschoice.org/
To review Lottery Applications Instructions, check this out.
You'll need your students CMS ID number and Pin Number, so if you are unsure of either, please call the school.
Transportation is only provided within the Violet Zone and portion of the Blue Zone. The bus stops are based on your home address that is in PowerSchool. To review your Transportation Zone, see here.
LOTTERY BEGINS: 11/18/2024 & LOTTERY ENDS: 1/3/2025 @ 10pm
Design Thinking
A design thinking activities book that facilitates design thinking activities teachers can do with minimal prototyping materials. Most of these can be done in an educational setting.
AR/VR Scientific Models
TinkerCad is the easier to use 3D modeling software for combining basic shapes to create complex 3D models
Sketchfab will take 3D models that are designed by students and allow them to color them, add realistic textures, and annotations to be explored in VR.
Augmented and
Virtual Reality
We used Metaverse to merge 360 videos, AR content, and text/quiz slides to make a personal AR/VR experience .
Sketchfab will take 3D models that are designed by students and allow them to color them, add realistic textures, and annotations to be explored in VR.
Ready to go
AR/VR Resources
Google Expeditions is full of AR and VR field trips that students can go on with no app to download or account to register. It covers all subjects, the link to all 900 of them is here
Google Experiments is a range of independently made AR/VR experiences, some educational some not but they are all made really well. Requires no account or app installation. That link is to the VR ones but other topics include AI, AR, Music, and digital creativity
3D Modeling and Printing
TinkerCad is the easier to use 3D modeling software for combining basic shapes to create complex 3D models.
OnShape is the entirely math driven 3D modeling software, students use 2D sketches that are measured in fractions, real numbers, and decimals to create their objects
Cura is a free to download 3D printing software.
