NOTE: The Performing Arts Department of Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools supports the position of NAfME (The National Association for Music Education) that the study and performance of religious music within an educational context is a vital and appropriate part of a comprehensive and culturally responsive music education. The omission of sacred music from the school curriculum would result in an incomplete educational experience. Additionally, the First Amendment does not forbid all mention of religion in the public schools; it prohibits the advancement or inhibition of religion by the state. A second clause in the First Amendment prohibits the infringement of religious beliefs. The public schools are not required to delete from the curriculum all materials that may offend any religious sensitivity. For instance, the study of art history would be incomplete without reference to the Sistine Chapel, and the study of architecture requires an examination of Renaissance cathedrals. Likewise, a comprehensive study of music includes an obligation to become familiar with choral music set to religious texts.

#3 - Dancing Leaves - SA - Coty Raven Morris
We spend so much time at the bark
At the root of it all
Looking at rings of time, attempting to dissect
where it all began
Where it all went wrong
We cut ourselves at the base
To build
To dwell
To create
to destroy
All the while snapping branches
Picking up leaves
We spend so much time waiting for the spring to
admire your bloom
Bask in your shade,
only to reject you at winter
When the harshness comes
(and you need us the most)
All the while snapping branches
Picking up leaves
Discarding them like foes
The residue of death
Divorcee from its base
as the roots grow deeper
As the rings begin to form
And soon we forget
That we used to snap branches
And listen to the music they made
beneath our feet
And pick up leaves to watch them fly
And dance
Dance under the sunset above our heads
A ballet in front of our eyes
As time stood still
and memories came and went
We spend so much time at the bark
At the root of it all
Forgetting to step back
and take in the bloom
if only to dance in the leaves
This version is SA, I believe.

#5 - Walk in Jerusalem - SSA - Rollo Dilworth
I want to be ready.
I want to be ready.
I want to be ready to walk in Jerusalem jus' like John.
I want to be ready.
I want to be ready
Oh I want to be ready!
Are you ready to walk? (Are you ready?)
Are you ready to walk? (Are you ready?)
Are you ready to walk?
Are you ready to walk in Jerusalem just like John?
John said the city was just 4 square.
Walk in Jerusalem just like John.
He declared he'd meet me there
Walk in Jerusalem just like John.
O John, O John, what do you say?
Walk in Jerusalem just like John.
That I'll be there in the comin' day!
Walk in Jerusalem just like John.
I want to be ready, I want to be ready. I want to be ready, to walk in Jeruselem just like John.
I want to be ready. I want to be ready. Oh, I want to be ready.
Are you ready to walk?....just like John!
