Courtney Guthrie, Orchestra

Courtney Guthrie is a North Carolina native, having attended school here in Charlotte. She holds a Bachelor of Music degree from UNC-Greensboro, where she performed with several chamber groups as well as the University Symphony Orchestra. She is in her 8th year of teaching at Community House Middle School. She is also the viola sectional coach for the Union Symphony Youth Orchestra.

Ms. Guthrie's orchestras consistently earn superior ratings at North Carolina Music Performance Adjudication (MPA), Guilford County Schools Festival, and Carowinds Festival of Music. Her students also participate in honors groups such as CMS Honors Orchestra, Jr. Western Region Orchestra, Union Symphony Youth Orchestra, Youth Orchestras of Charlotte, and Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestras.

Ms. Guthrie remains an active performer and freelance musician and resides in Charlotte, NC with her husband, Brian Booth, and their dog, Connor.

Kati Shives, Band

Kati Shives is the Director of Bands at Community House Middle School in Charlotte, NC. She received a Bachelor of Music in Music Education from Appalachian State University. She is currently in her twelfth year of teaching and has taught both band and chorus. Her students successfully audition for local, regional, and statewide honor bands in addition to performing with the Charlotte Youth Symphony Orchestra. She is the co-director of the Community House Symphony Orchestra, which has been selected several times to perform in the Charlotte Concerts Series Musical Showcase at the Blumenthal Performing Arts Center. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education, the North Carolina Music Educators Association, and the North Carolina Bandmasters Association. She currently resides with her husband, David, daughter, Maggie, and dogs, Lily and Grace, in Fort Mill, SC.
