My name is Crystal Edwards and I am the new Dean of Students at Albemarle Road Middle IB Academy. I am a proud Charlotte native and graduate of Elon University. After graduating, I began my career at Independence High School where I taught Math 1 and Math 3 for six years. I furthered myself professionally by obtaining my National Board Certification in Early Adolescence Math (ages 11- 15). I earned my NC Administrator’s License through the School Executive Leadership Academy and will earn my Master’s in Educational Leadership from Queens University next spring. My mission as an educator is to: engage - make students interested in what if I have to say; educate - when I earn their attention, teach them; equip them with tools they need to be successful, independent, critical thinkers; and empower them to make decisions.
My favorite things to do include spending time with my mom and sister, taking walks around Latta Park, and trying new restaurants. During the pandemic, I have made sure all of my streaming services work and have binge-watched The Resident, The Chi, Sweet Magnolias, and Dead to Me (fun fact - I can only binge one show at a time). My guilty pleasure is Smothered on TLC. I rarely meet a french fry or biscuit that I do not like. Papermate Flair Pens and BIC mechanical pencils make me happy!
