Routines and Procedures:
How will I begin my day?
Students are expected to arrive willing and ready to learn. Each class will have direct instruction, collaborative activities and time to work in tutorial groups except for Friday classes. We will work on how this will happen in a virtual space. Friday classes are reserved for team building, guest speakers, field trips and motivational activities and Binder Checks.. It is expected that students will work as soon as they enter the classroom or log on to the course.
What will we do?
Tutorials are small study groups that are facilitated by other AVID students as well as college students who will assist students with their studies. Each AVID student is to come prepared for the tutorial with questions from their core or college classes.
We will also work on the ins and outs of navigating school, and preparing for our next steps after high school.
Virtual Field trips may be scheduled to visit local colleges and universities, providing students with the opportunity to visit the institutions firsthand. All of these lessons are designed to help each student to become Next Step Ready and Incorporate WICOR (Writing, Inquiry, Collaboration, Organization and Reading)
AVID students are expected to keep one, two or three-inch binder that contains all of their course work. This binder will be checked every other week and is a formal grade. We will also use a virtual Binder this school year.
The sample of the virtual binder can be found here: https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1z81OHox4VDxAugQyeqNH10t6SbjqHKD3awKCXxUm6sk/edit?usp=sharing
