Stems are the building blocks for words. Knowing stems is like knowing your math facts. When you don't know your multiplication facts, it is hard to do division. When you don't know stems of words, it's hard to figure out meaning and context of unknown words.
If you are new to Hough, you may need support by visiting the English I Stems page for lists 1-10. Each grade level at Hough covers 10 lists. During the first week of school, English II students will review stems from English I using the Master List 1-10.
