Welcome Piedmont Pirates! I am Ms. Beckham and I am so excited to embark upon this journey with you during your last year in middle school. In order to prepare you for the years coming and even post-secondary education we must all work very hard.
Be prepared for class. You should always come to class prepared. This means that you should have requested materials ready for use BEFORE CLASS BEGINS.
Make sure that you are in class each and every day on time. When entering class, check to see if there is a warm-up on the screen. If so, get out your homework and immediately begin working on the warm up task. When you miss class, it may be difficult for you to catch up. If for some reason you must be late for class, you need to have a pass either from the front office or your previous teacher. After entering the classroom, place your pass on my desk and quietly take your seat. Please be sure not to disrupt class. You will NOT be exempt from the warm-up for that day. All students are expected to make up any missed work (due to absences) within 5 school days. It is the students’ responsibility to check with me for the missed work and make-up assignments.
Complete assignments with thoroughness by their due date. Homework will be assigned at least three nights out of the week. Science homework, dependent on the assignment, will be graded and recorded in the grade book. If, for some reason, students do not have their assignment on the day it is due they can turn it in for partial credit. Students will lose 10% off the original grade for each day the assignment is late. Extra credit is only given on a class wide basis, not as a means to rescue poor grades of individuals. Occasionally such assignments may be offered that will provide enrichment opportunities for all students. In doing so, I hope to encourage my students to put for the their best effort the first time.
Practice time management. Students are expected to be respectful, organized, attentive, and responsible ensuring that disrespectful and disruptive behavior is avoided. Students are expected to use class time wisely and responsibly engaging in academic learning at all times. Therefore, passes out of class will be limited.
Help sessions: Help sessions will be available to those needing extra help with science topics throughout the 2017- 2018 school year. Help sessions are between 8:00 and 8:45, on Thursday mornings in my classroom, Room D-108.
