The VTU Research Centre in the Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering at CMR Institute of Technology (CMRIT) was established in 2009 with the aim of promoting innovation and cutting-edge research in the field of Electronics and Communication. Since its inception, the center has grown into a hub of academic excellence, making substantial contributions to scientific progress and technological innovation.
The research centre actively undertakes investigations across a broad spectrum of domains, including VLSI, Communication and Networking, Signal and Image Processing, and Nanotechnology. Supported by a team of 22 experienced research supervisors, the centre offers comprehensive mentorship and guidance to scholars pursuing advanced research in diverse areas. At present, 15 doctoral candidates are engaged in pioneering research projects that address contemporary challenges and align with current academic and industrial needs. Since its inception, 15 scholars have successfully been awarded Ph.D. degrees, reflecting the centre’s sustained commitment to producing high-quality research and fostering academic excellence.
To support advanced research activities, the centre is equipped with state-of-the-art software and hardware facilities. The software infrastructure includes tools such as LabVIEW, HFSS, MATLAB, Cadence, and Xilinx, which are extensively utilized for simulation, modelling, and analytical studies across diverse research domains. Complementing these, the hardware infrastructure comprises Robotics Kits, Spartan-6 Kits, FPGA boards and Zynq boards, enabling researchers to design, implement, and validate their concepts through practical experimentation. These comprehensive resources facilitate prototype development and experimental validation, thereby ensuring the translational relevance and practical applicability of research outcomes.
The research centre has successfully secured substantial funding from renowned government agencies to advance innovative research initiatives. To date, the centre has received a cumulative funding of ₹60,71,628. Among the recent grants, ₹25.2 lakh was sanctioned by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), significantly strengthening the research ecosystem at CMRIT. Additionally, funding amounting to ₹19.8 lakh was obtained from the Science and Engineering Research Board–ANRF, Government of India, further augmenting the centre’s research capabilities and fostering advancements in emerging technologies.
Emphasizing multidisciplinary research, innovation, and technological advancement, the VTU Research Centre at CMRIT continues to make a notable contribution to the field of Electronics and Communication Engineering. Supported by a robust research infrastructure, experienced mentorship, and consistent funding, the centre is dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge, fostering impactful research outcomes, and cultivating the next generation of researchers and innovators.
