Professional bodies are distinctive and they are dedicated to the advancement of the knowledge and practice of professions through developing, supporting, regulating and promoting professional standards for technical and ethical competence.

Objectives:

  1. set and assess professional examinations

  2. provide support for continuing professional development

  3. publish professional journals or magazines

  4. provide networks for professionals to meet and discuss their field of expertise

  5. issue a code of conduct to guide professional behavior

  6. deal with complaints against professionals and implement disciplinary procedures

  7. represent their members in lobbying government about relevant legislation

  8. promote fairer access to the profession to people from all backgrounds

  9. provide careers support and opportunities for students, graduates and people already working in the profession
