Welcome to Mr. Farquhar's Class

Welcome

This is the website for both of Mr. Farquhar's classes at West Creek High School. Each class has it's own individual page for class specific documents and information.

Remote Learning Tools

This year we will primarily use the below tools to help us learn.

Zoom- A mainstay of remote learning that I won't try to mess with. Make sure to pay attention to the links.

Schools PLP- The district has helpfully created this convenient site for pre-made lessons with the ability for me to add my own flavor to them. This will be where most lessons are posted.

Google Classroom- I will use Google Classroom alongside Schools PLP to deliver lessons. Whether in person or vitrual I will use this to keep assignments organized and as a way to communicate with students.

Kami- https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/kami-extension-pdf-and-do/ecnphlgnajanjnkcmbpancdjoidceilk This is an extension to chrome that allows for students to highlight and mark up PDF files. Given the need for extra precautions with handouts and the inability for me to hand virtual students paper, this will be invaluable.

Snap & Read-https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/snapread/mloajfnmjckfjbeeofcdaecbelnblden This extension allows students to remove distractions on webpages, read text to them, and even translate into a multitude of languages.

There are only 2 rules for this.

  1. They must be school appropriate (No swears and PG-13 topics)

  2. Keep it under 6 minutes. (Sorry to the Metal listeners)

About Me

My name is Aaron Farquhar and I have the pleasure of teaching World History and U.S. Government at West Creek High School. I graduated from Indiana University with a degree in Secondary Social Studies Education. Because of this, I have a passion for college basketball, and a depression from IU basketball constantly dashing my hopes. I do, however, have a much greater passion for soccer which fuels me whenever I am not at school. Though, I am also the assistant soccer coach.

I've always had a passion for history and the multitude of fascinating stories that come out of humanity's past. From those stories, I learned and continue to learn what it means to be a good citizen, as well as simply how to grow as a human being. I love the fact that I can share these stories and lessons with the next generations, and I hope to help mold empathetic, thoughtful, and perseverant young men and women.

With that being said, school, and high school in particular, can be a tumultuous time for young people, so I also wish to guide students through this time in their lives, as my teachers did with me.

Those teachers guided me, but they also endeavored to make my experience enjoyable and fun, as all good teachers should. With the help of my students, I aim to create a fun, yet challenging, environment.

With the cooperation of my students, I believe we can accomplish all of our academic goals, while maintaining a positive classroom experience. I look forward to being in the classroom, and look forward to a successful year!
