Module 1: Describe Materials
Big Idea: In this module, students will plan and conduct investigations to observe patterns in how materials can be described and classified by their observable properties. They will use models to show the scale and organization of particles in matter, and will investigate how the arrangements of particles affect the properties of matter.
Module 2: Changes to Materials
Big Idea: In this module, students will investigate changes that can happen to materials and construct explanations about how an object made of small pieces can break into pieces and be made into a new object. Also, students will construct arguments from evidence that some changes caused by heating and cooling can be reversed, and some cannot.
Module 3: Electricity and Magnetism
Big Idea: In this module, students will consider how magnets and electricity can move objects. They will ask questions that can be investigated to explore the effects of static electricity on objects, and explain how magnetic forces can be used in designing solutions to problems.
Module 4: Energy Transfer
Big Idea: In this module, students will investigate different types of energy and how energy is transferred.
Module 5: Plants
Big Idea: In this module, students will explore the life cycle of plants and the traits they inherit.
Module 6: Animals
Big Idea: In this module, students will explore the life cycles of animals, the traits they inherit, and their social interactions. Students will also use models to describe patterns in animal life cycles.
Module 7: Organisms and the Environment
Big Idea: In this module, students will explore how different organisms survive in different environments.
Module 8: Energy in Ecosystems
Big Idea: In this module, students will use models to understand how energy flows within an ecosystem.They will develop and use models of how matter cycles through ecosystemsand be abel to explain how these cycles affect the ecosystems.
Module 9: Weather Impacts
Big Idea: In this module, students will explore different types of weather and climate, along with natural hazards and how to prepare for them.
Module 10: Our Solar Systems
Big Idea: In this module, students will identify the position and properties of planets within the solar system.
