Library Policies

CIRCULATION:

  • There is no limit on the number of items students may check out, excluding the Graphic Fiction collection (i.e. GF 741.5). Since these titles are so popular, students may only check out 4 items at any given time.

  • The checkout period for all items is 2 weeks - excludes weekends and any day(s) out of the school calendar.

  • Students may renew items for an additional 2 weeks as needed.

  • Overdue fines are $.10 a day per item.

  • No checkouts are allowed when a student has overdue items and/or fines.

  • Students with overdue items are emailed weekly reminder notices to their school email addresses. Print overdue notices are sent to students every nine weeks' grading period. Students with excessive overdue items and/or fines are mailed letters to their home addresses at the end of each semester.

VISITATION:

  • Students must sign in at the circulation desk when visiting the library without a classroom teacher.

  • Students must have a pass or permission from a teacher to use the library during the regular school day.

  • Students are not allowed per administration to visit the library during their lunch period.

  • Only those students who sign up for a Student ePass in advance may visit the library during CCR - Tuesday and Thursday only. Classroom teachers will receive via email an approved list of those students with permission to visit.

  • Only 3-4 students may visit the library at one time from any classroom teacher unless otherwise specified.

PRINTING:

  • There are 4 black & white printing stations available for student use throughout the school day and before and after school. A student color printer is also available for a nominal fee of $.25 per page.

  • B/W printing is free but must be pre-approved by a librarian.

  • All printing fees are due at the time of receipt; however, students may choose to charge those fees onto their library accounts for payment at a later time. All charges must be paid by the end of the current nine weeks.

LOST OR DAMAGED MATERIALS:

  • If a book has been out excessively long, it will be declared lost. Students will not be able to check-out another book until the lost book is either returned or paid for. If a book is paid for, and then found within the same school year in good condition, the money will be refunded to the parent. Any books damaged by water, coloring, food, extremely ripped pages, dog/animal bites, etc... will be the responsibility of the student's parents to pay for. We ask that you pay with a check.

  • Please DO NOT attempt to replace a lost book yourself. The majority of our hardback books are library bound. This means they are special ordered with more durable covers for multi-use check-outs. Books bought from Amazon and other discount retailers often do not offer library bound editions and do not come processed for the library. These books are for home use only, and will not withstand the multiple check-outs that our students will put them through. Our books are also ordered pre-processed. This means they come with our library barcodes attached as well as spine labels and library records; this is an additional cost for us but allows us to get books onto the shelves faster for our patrons.

  • All students have been provided training in the care and maintenance of books, and they should be responsible for keeping them in good condition while in their home. While we understand that accidents will happen, we must have the funding to replace books that are lost or damaged. If we did not do this, we would be unable to maintain our library on the funding provided.
