Class Overview
Here at Kenwood Middle, we will strive to master different aspects of computers and coding with applications. We will use various programs to explore safe and responsible usage, improve our typing and communication skills, as well as approach computer coding with virtual simulations, basic electronics, robotics, and drones. We will approach these areas with a focus on STEM and the Engineering Design Process.
With Arduino Education, the students get basic electronics with Coding.
Students using Tello Drones to fly patterns and challenges, coding for autonomous flight with DroneBlocks.
Lego Robotics introduces the students to Computer Processes by having to program multiple motors for movement.
Students start with basic coding using Block Code to help them understand algorithms.
If you are interested in learning more coding, Austin Peay offers coding camps in the spring and summer. Talk to your parents about signing up for a course or camp. The courses/camps are being offered at a huge discount thanks to Google! Click on the link for more information.
Kenwood Middle's Computer Science class was awarded a TVA STEM Grant, sponsored by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and local electric service provider CDE Lightband. The school applied for a grant and received $5000 to expand its computer science program. The grant money was used to purchase more drones, Arduino based Groveboards, and Arduino Education kits. These items will allow students to explore Computer Science and Coding with more hands on activities in the classroom. Thank you to the TVA and CDE for the funds to further push our 21st Century learning.

Parents and Students - Just because you aren't in class, doesn't mean you can't learn to code. Students - check out these additional resources to what we are learning in class. Parents - Learn some skills with your students, skills that could be useful in your current or future career! Coding jobs are in high demand and usually don't require a lot of higher education.
