KiMS Band Faculty

A creative and dedicated educator, Penelope is most excited when her students are excited! She believes that middle and high school students are willing to work hard and give their best effort when they know someone truly cares about them. Students frequently say her class is the best part of their day! 

As a percussionist, Penelope holds a bachelors in music education from Central Michigan University and a masters of arts degree in counseling from Cornerstone University. Penelope currently teaches middle school band at Kirkwood Middle School. She also works with the KiHS marching drumline. Her bands regularly receive Superior ratings at Concert Performance Festivals and her marching percussion sections consistently place in the top three at regional competitions. 

Penelope is an active clinician throughout the region. She has presented on topics such as classroom management, program preparation, and percussion involvement at music education conferences in Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, and Tennessee. She has been published in the Iowa Journal for Music Education and is twice listed in Who’s Who among American Teachers.

After spending 9 years teaching in Michigan, Penelope taught at Sycamore Middle and High Schools for 7 years and is now excited to join the Kirkwood Middle School Band program!

Mrs. Emily Tubbs lives in Clarksville, TN and has been a music educator in the Clarksville Montgomery County School System since the fall of 2016. She graduated summa cum laude from Austin Peay State University with a Bachelor of Music degree in May 2016. 

Mrs. Tubbs primary instrument is the flute which she began playing in 8th grade band class and continues today. Outside of the school day, Mrs. Tubbs participates in the Grace Lutheran Church choir and brass ensemble playing the French Horn. 

Mrs. Tubbs has been married since 2017, has a five year old son and a two year old daughter. Her family is very excited to continue the music program at Kirkwood Middle and can not wait to see the places we’ll go.
