February 11, 2022.... Today was a great day for Abby Chappell and Wildcat Softball Family as Abby signed her name to a scholarship offer to attend and play for Cumberland University. Abby's signing made it a clean sweep for the Wildcats Softball as all 3 seniors have now signed to play college softball next year.
Abby has been a part of 2 hugely successful seasons as Clarksville High. As a freshman, she was a role player on a team that went 39-2, won the Commando Classic, the Waverly Diamond Classic, the District 10AAA Title, and qualifed for regions. On a team that was led by Madisen Blackwell, Erin Lackey, Shelby Gibson, and Maddie Berner among others, Abby was mentored by some of the best our program has to offer. Her sophomore season was halted just as it started due to the first Covid crisis. It was her junior year where she shined, it was her time. She helped her team to a 39-3-1 record, a repeat Commando Classic Championship, a Bison Classic Championship, a District Championship, a region runner-up and a berth into the Sectional Game. She earned all District, All-County, and All-Area as a catcher, and had a monster season at the plate. She hit 5 homeruns, 39 RBI and batted .453
Today was especially special as Abby signed not only in front of her family, teammates, and friends. but also in front of her future coach. Taylor Bates, a former Wilcat player was there to witness Abby due what she had once done as a former Wildcat.
November 15, 2021.... It was a big day here at CHS as two of our girls signed to play at the next level. Emberly Nichols chose to stay home and signed to play at the Division I level with Austin Peay State University. Newcomer Breanna Snyder will join fellow CHS Wilcats Arie Milam and Maddie Berner at Dyersburg State.
Emberly follows in the footsteps of former Wildcat pitching standout Heather Norris, in signing with Austin Peay. Emberly has been a force on the mound ever since the day she joined the team. In Emberly's first start on the mound as a freshman, she threw a no-hitter, striking out 11. At the plate that day, she hit a grand slam. This was just a prevew of things to come. Last year, Emberly went 12-1 on the mound with 89 strikeouts. At the plate, she hit 3 home runs, had 34 rbi, and batted .413
Although new to Clarksville High, Breanna has been a standout softball player here in Clarksville. She has been an offensive force for Northwest, having led them in several offensive categories. Like Emberly, several post season awards came her way, including all-district and all-state selections. Her stats, her effort, and her love of the game were more than enough to catch the attention of her future home of Dyersburg State
November 14, 2020.... In front of family, friends and teammates, Erin Lackey and Sydney Weatherford both signed to play Division I softball next year. Both have been tremendous athletes here at CHS in multiple sports, and both will continue to play the game they love the most at the next level.
Erin Signed first, inking her name with Murray State. As a freshman, Erin earned a varsity position in the outfield. before taking over the shortstop position at the start of her sophomore season. There, she has been a standout at that position, earning all-district and all-area recognition. Although she has the ability to play all 9 positions, it is at shortstop where she has shined. At the plate, Erin has proven to be just as versatile. She can bunt to move runner, bunt to get on base, and hit for average or power. In addition, she is one of the team leaders in stolen bases.
Sydney got on stage next and put her name to paper to continue to wear purple and play for Evansville. Sydney has been a standout varsity player since her freshman year, earning playing time in the outfield, at first base, and on the mound. It has been on the mound where her star has shined the brightest, picking up 17 wins her sophomore season. Like Erin, Sydney has also earn all-district and all-area awards. On offense, Sydney has proven her versatility by swinging the bat from both sides of the plate. She is one of the top hitters in the league, hitting for both power and for average.
