The American College Test (ACT)

What is the ACT? The ACT is a college and career readiness exam based on the curriculum students have been taught from elementary through high school. The exam takes three hours and 30 minutes to complete and is scored on a scale of 1–36. The test consists of four required subject tests (with an optional writing test): English, mathematics, reading, and science. (www.act.org)

Composite

A student's composite score is the average of his/her four subject test scores.

Students who meet a Benchmark on the ACT have approximately a 50 percent chance of earning a B or better and approximately a 75 percent chance of earning a C or better in the corresponding college course or courses.

  • CMCSS students, Grade 11, will take the ACT during the school day in the Spring semester.

  • CMCSS students, Grade 12, will take the ACT during the school day in the Fall semester.
