Good Afternoon, NEMS Families,
NEMS Extended Learning Programs are ready to have you register for programs. This year we will have a soft start on Tuesday, Sept 1, 2026. Not all programs will start next week.
Please know that you will receive a confirmation email from me, Denette Mannen, NEMS ELP Coordinator. I will need a confirmation email back that you accept the schedule I have sent for your child to participate and I will need an email on days your child is absent or will not be able to stay for ELP.
Please talk to your child or childrent before the school day to make sure they know if they are staying or not. I have had some children stay without their parent knowing where they were; which can be fearful.
Transportation is Car Rider pickup by 4:20 p.m. on the day or days your student stays or students stay. If your child is in walking distance, I will need an email from you getting permission for him or her to walk or ride a bike, especially across Trenton Road at 4:30 pm. I will place this request on your confirmation email form also.
If you are unable to provide Car Rider pickup for any one day, please let your student know to go home at the normal 2:10 dismissal time on that day or days. He or she will still be considered a participant and will not be dropped from the programs unless you and I have communicated the change in scheduling.
Please email letting me know your child is not staying so I am aware before the end of the school day.
Again, parents will receive a confirmation email from denette.mannen@cmcss.net. Please discuss with your childrent so they know to come to the theater when their grade level is dismissed to buses.
Parents and Guardians, BUS TRANSPORTATION WILL Not BE OFFERED, at this time,
Location for Car Rider Lines:
Your child will need car rider transportation by 4:20 p.m. at the Car Rider line in the back of the building. If you park up front, you will be asked to drive around to the back of the building. It is easier to connect to the Car Rider line by driving into the NE campus off Merriweather Road and take the Car Rider access road by Northeast Elementary School. You may proceed into the teacher parking lot in the two lanes for your child to walk to the vehicle once instructed to load. Please pull up to the very end of the sidewalk past the building entrance doors so we are able to load cars quickly and safely.
This is two lines running through the staff parking lot, for those of you that are not use to using the area.
DO NOT PARK IN A PARKING PLACE. REMEMBER, WE WANT EVERYONE SAFE GETTING TO THE CARS.
Please see descriptions of all the NEMS Extended Learning Programs to determine which ones work for you and your student(s).
I hope your child will be able to participate in this opportunity. We are thankful to have Army Youth Programs in Your Neighborhood (AYPYN) Grant Funding and guidance to develop this Extended Learning Program at NEMS.
Please register as soon as possible; spaces are limited and will fill up quickly. Your student will be involved on multiple nights for different programs; you may leave me an comment in the other letting me know if only one or two afternoons work for you.
NEMS AYPYN Extended Learning Program Expectation mirror the NEMS SOAR Expectations during the school day.
Stand with integrity
Own your growth,
be Accountable and Responsible, and as always,
Represent Quality
Please understand that if your student is involved in the Extended Learning Programs at NEMS he or she will have the privilege to get support on studying, completing and understanding the content or skills needed to be successful in his or her classes. AYPYN requires our Extended Learning Programs to include a reading, studying, homework time for each of the programs.
He or she will also have the opportunity to ask for assistance and to determine what part of the concept he or she is making mistakes on -- sometimes, it just needs to be said or explained by a peer or another adult to have difficult math, science, social studies, or ELA concept or skill make sense.
Some of the students just need a little extra time to complete the work. It takes time to "train your brain" to remember the content, and working the extended hours at school can assist students to have time to focus in a quiet learning environment.
Our SOAR EXPECTATIONS will be incorporated into the Extended Learning Programs and students will be able to earn praise for their determination, self-reflection, mistake-making, effort they use. Students will be able to open their mind to new perspectives and to overcome challenges by realizing that they just have to say: "I will try another way" and "I just can't do it yet" Students will learn to step out of their comfort zones to learn the skills, content, and consepts needed to be successful.
