NEMS Extended Learning Programs

Clubs and Group Descriptions

These are the clubs and groups that will be offered this year and are subject to change because of schedule conflicts and sponsor availability.

All classes include time for homework, assignment assistance, and study skills -- Everyone has homework nightly-- Studying is homework; reading for 20 to 40 minutes is homework; memorizing addition, subtraction, multiplication & division facts is homework , etc. Students are expected bring grades up to passing in all classes and to engage in the classes to increase knowledge and increase academic growth & behavior growth.

Data will be checked to see if those participating in activities are staying up on their academic and related arts grades. Remember, our social-emotional learning during Eagle Up and your classes, teaches all of us that we have to take responsibility to better ourselves through knowledge-- knowledge increases reading skills, knowledge changes our perspective, knowledge reduces our stress level, knowledge relaxes our souls, and knowledge allows us to do what it takes to be healthy and support our overall well-being.

Students are expected to follow the CMCSS Student Code of Conduct and the NEMS S.O.A.R. Expectations.

Extended Learning Programs are a privilege, not a requirement. Participation is voluntary, but your participation is required to keep your spot available. Students will be placed on the waiting list as needed.

NEMS Extended Learning Programs will run from September 29, 2025, through May 1, 2026. Please make sure to listen for cancellations because of schedule conflicts or inclement weather.

Transportation for 2025-26 NEMS Extended Learning Programs is CAR RIDER ONLY, at this time.

CAR RIDERS, please make sure you have someone available to pick up your student(s) around 4:20 p.m. on the days they are staying (no later then 4:30 p.m.) Car riders will be at the back of the building in the normal double-line car pick-up.

Read through the descriptions below and decide your 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th , & 5th choices. Then go to the "Join a Club or Group" link on the next page and complete the form for your student(s) - you will need to complete one form per student. Please pay close attention to the afternoon each club is available.

A confirmation email will be sent from Mrs. Mannen, Extended Learning Programs, Coordinator.

PLEASE EMAIL Mrs. Mannen if your child is no longer going to be attending the AFSP, we want to be able to offer a place to those on the waiting lists.

An email with a NEMS Extended Learning Programs Student informaion Flyer was sent out to all NEMS students and will be available in the register office for new students to get. Teachers also have a digital copy to share with new students.

Art Club! Yes, a place to enjoy working with fellow artists and develop your talents even more. Learn and explore different media to show off your skills. It is always nice to collaborate with other artists and work in a relaxing environment

Eagle Fitness: Join us for fitness, sweat, and fun! This activity will provide a vigorous 45-minute workout for our students with plyometric activities, strength training, cardio, and a 15-minute. cool down. Instructions given by Professional Fitness Coach.

Yes!! This is still a thing. Join the chess club to try your skills at this mindful game. You may be ready for the challenge of a compitition or just beginning the game; let's see what moves you can make!!!

Creative Writing & Illustration Art

Take the opportunity to publish your creative thinking and your abilities as writers in a positive environment with your peers. Students will create stories, and poems, and partner with each other to improve their imagination and creativity. Those who would like to illustrate their artistic ability are able to join also-- it would be a great opportunity to publish your artistic talent. Join now and share your talents for others to read.

Dungeons and Dragons Gaming

In Dungeons & Dragons (D&D), the players form an adventuring party who explore fantasy worlds together as they embark on epic quests and level up in experience. The Dungeon Master or Game Master (also known as the DM or GM) is the game's referee and storyteller. There’s no winning or losing in D&D—at least, not in the conventional way. At its heart, D&D is a game that focuses on storytelling. The dice just help you along. Everything is your decision, from what you look like, to how you act, to what happens next. Students who choose to participate in D&D Club will learn all the basics of tabletop role-playing games, so gamers of all experience and knowledge levels are welcome. Have fun and remember the golden rule—never split the party!

Success Academy High Dosage Academic Student Support (2:15 p,m. - 4:30 p.m. )

Success Academy offers the opportunity for students to get academic support to be successful as learners and to engage in their own academic growth. Faculty and staff will be available to tutor you for 2 hours on a concept or skill each day for 4 days a week; until you understand how to process the knowledge and have trained your brain. Through this academy, you can have time to work on your classroom assignments, homework, and study to place information in your long-term memory. You will be able to utilize the SOAR EXPECTATIONS AND A GROWTH MINDSET TO BRING BOTH ACHIEVEMENT AND GROWTH IN KNOWLEDGE TO NEW HEIGHTS!

Offered on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays & Fridays- Join all 4 days or only on each day transportaiton is available. Support is available please take advantage of this opportunity-- come prepared with questions and class resources to work on assignments.

Balanced Wellness

Support & Science Behind Having the Courage to be Your Best!

Balanced Wellness focuses on the “whole” student, including academic, social/emotional, and physical success. The demands of middle school can be difficult for a young teen to manage. Our goal is to provide guidance on managing homework, teaching organizational skills, and study habits, while also emphasizing the importance of social relationships, emotional regulation, and physical activity. We take a balanced approach to foster a positive mindset so that students can maintain academic readiness, resilience, and overall life success.

Talons and Timber Woodturning Program

On Hold until after Fall Break

At Northeast Middle's Talons and Timber Woodturning Extended Learning Program, students will Soar to New Heights of craftsmanship! This hands-on program provides the perfect opportunity for aspiring makers to develop essential skills in woodworking. Participants will learn to use hand tools and master measurement basics, operate CNC machines, and explore the art of laser engraving. The highlight of the program is learning to use a wood lathe, allowing students to create a variety of personalized projects, including pens, bottle openers, bowls, keychains, and more. Talons and Timber encourages creativity, precision, and problem-solving, all while having fun in a safe, supportive, and creative environment. Limited Space and Final Acceptance will by made by Mr. Stnson. The woodturning shop is up and ready for students to participate-- a few at a time.

Mr. Stinson will make final Acceptance. Safety contracts will need to be signed by parents or guardians before application is complete. Will not start until after fall break.

Craft Club

I wish I could make my gifts to give to my family and friends.

Join Craft Club to learn the basics to make bracelets, bookmarks, flowers, and more.

Your creative mind will be challenged to learn the skills needed to complete craft projects.

Stem/ Robotics

Acceptance is determined by Ms. Blue-Stewart, MEMS STEM/Robotics Teacher STEM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. NEMS Extended Learning STEM club uses teamwork and critical thinking skills to solve real-world mathematical and science problems as well as perform engineering design challenges. Students will work in teams to solve problems and design solutions. Increase your brain power by joining this group.

Jr. Beta:

"[The National Beta Club] provides an opportunity to improve and promote the most valuable elements in education: Academic Achievement, Community Service, Communication Skills, Leadership, and Teamwork." This is open to students based on academic achievement who must be A-B (3.0 GPA) students to participate. There are local and national dues that go with this club. Additional paperwork will be sent home ASAP.

I know this is a lot of information. Please look over it quickly and go to the next pull-down tab to register. Please take advantage of these opportunities. Support is available for your child to be successful this year!!

Remember, if you are able to have car pickup here by 4:30 p.m., your student or students will benefit from being involved and getting support for their growth and learning. Please take advantage of this opportunity. Students will be provided a small snack each day they stay. They are welcome to bring an additional snack if they need to. Please encourage them to carry a water bottle to fill at the end of the day to stay hydrated.
