It is suggested that you develop your genogram with a particular focus. For example, you might create your genogram to explore your experience of anxiety. It can target any issue, problem, challenge, or symptom (some will use the same topic from the written “dialogue with a problem” experiential). It is easy to get lost in details/content and your faculty member will help you focus on the essence/takeaways.
The following questions can also be contemplated if helpful to your process:
What was it like to draw and share your genogram?
What strengths do you see in your family?
What patterns do you see?… A pattern that I want to release is_____, A pattern that I want to maintain/keep is___.
One thing that surprised me is____.
An unanswered question that I have is_____.
Drawing and sharing this genogram reminds me to_____.
