I hope you have all had a lovely summer and enjoyed some time together. It has been lovely getting to know the children over the first few days, and they have made a really positive start to Year 1.
We have lots of exciting learning planned for this term and I am looking forward to getting to know the children even more as the year goes on.
Here is a little bit of information about Year 1 and some of the things to remember this term.
Homework in Year 1 will mainly focus on phonics and reading, and Doodlemaths.
Please try to practise the sounds and graphemes at the front of your child's reading book regularly. This will help them to become more confident when reading their book.
There are also some useful phonics resources on our Phonics page if you would like a little extra help at home.
Please try to read with your child as often as you can. Even 5–10 minutes makes a difference!
Reading together, talking about the story and asking questions about what they have read are all great ways to help develop their reading.
Please make sure reading books and reading records are brought into school each day.
Books will be changed on Fridays, so please make sure your child's book is in school ready for this.
There is no need to spend lots of time doing extra work at home. Reading, practising phonics and doing a little bit of maths is more than enough.
However, things like counting while out and about, spotting numbers, playing games or simply talking about what you see around you are all useful ways to support your child's learning too.
Please continue to encourage your child to use DoodleMaths regularly. A few minutes at a time is plenty and will help to keep their maths skills fresh.
If you have any problems with your login, please let me know and I will be happy to help.
Our PE day is Friday.
Please make sure your child comes to school in their PE kit on Fridays.
If you have any questions or anything you would like to talk about, please come and speak to me at the end of the school day or contact the school office to arrange a time to meet.
Thank you for your support as we start the new school year. I am really looking forward to the year ahead and watching the children grow in confidence and independence.
