Ronit Ron-Yerushalmi
Ronit Ron-Yerushalmi and grew up in Israel in a small moshav near Netanyah. Currently, she is the Director of Language and Global Studies in Kavod Charter School. She holds a Master of Education degree from the University of Minnesota with a focus on second language and culture education and also worked at the Center for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition. She holds Full Certification of ACTFL OPI Tester of Hebrew, is a Committee Member of the World Language Standards Advisory Committee at the State of California, the World Language Framework Advisory Committee at the State of California, and was a participant in the 2018 CLTA’s California Language Leadership Initiative (CALLI) training. Ronit is also part of the FLCSD and helps to support and train Foreign Language teachers and promote the importance of second language acquisition. These days she is working on her doctorate in Modern Languages at Middlebury College.
Angela Raines
Angela Raines has taught German to high school students since 2000. Due to budget cuts, the German program where she was the sole German teacher was cut in 2008. At that time, she transitioned to teaching online, where she has taught ever since. She holds a Master’s Degree in Teaching International Languages, and was a participant in the World Languages Framework Review Committee and is active in her local affiliate, FLASH. Angela is the Assistant Program Director at UC Scout, an online high school program through the University of California. When she is not working Angela enjoys mountain biking, baking, and riding dirt bikes with her family.
Marie Bertola
Marie Bertola is a Senior Lecturer of Italian at Santa Clara University. She earned Master's degrees in both Italian and French language and literature. She also earned an M.A. in Teaching FSL and a degree in Journalism. She has taught all levels of Italian and French language and culture for the last thirty years at various colleges and universities in the United States and in France. She is involved in several professional organizations and regularly presents at state and national level conferences. When not teaching, mentoring students or advocating for language education and Italian programs K-12, she enjoys reading, listening to Chinese opera, watching Japanese movies, dancing, and practicing martial arts.
Amelia Nevis
Amelia Nevis has been teaching Italian since 2008 primarily at the high school, college, university and adult levels. Since the pandemic she has transitioned to online instruction and is currently an Adjunct Professor for Modesto Junior College. She completed her BA in Italian Studies from Gonzaga University and MA in Italian from SF State. Her participation in the World Languages Framework Review Committee and in projects like this SIG have been some of her career highlights. When not teaching or leading groups of students on tours in Italy, Amelia enjoys crafting, yoga, reading and swimming.
