Teams of multiple people compete by collecting trash within a designated area and time limit. Points are awarded based on the amount and types of trash collected. In the World Cup format, teams consist of three members, with a time limit of one hour, plus an additional 20 minutes for sorting the trash.
Anyone can participate in the preliminary rounds, regardless of age, gender, or disability. The appeal of "SPOGOMI" lies in the fact that, with teamwork, strategy, and tactics, anyone has the potential to win.
The World Cup, featuring representatives from various countries, is planned to be held in Japan in October 2025. Leading up to the event, preliminary and national tournaments will be held across all 47 prefectures in Japan, while preliminary rounds are expected to take place in more than 30 countries across the six major continents.
