This is the official website of Tarpey Spartans baseball. The coaches here at Tarpey share a philosophy of preparing our players to be student athletes. The emphasis is on academics first, and then athletics. Players are required to maintain a 2.0 or higher GPA in order to play baseball.

Spartan baseball consists of two teams, an A team (varsity) and a B team (junior varsity). Within each team, the skills focus is different. Varsity is more competitive and focuses more on more advanced skills. Varsity players usually consist of players who have had a number of years of baseball prior the the current year. JV's focus is mostly on fundamentals. This team is for the players who have never played the sport before, or are just learning. On Junior Varsity every player will play the field, and get an opportunity to bat. On Varsity, our goal is to play every player, but not every player is guaranteed to play in every game.

Practice begins on the week of January 31. The first week of Practice is tryouts where coaches will decide and pick which players will be on the Varsity and JV teams. Practice is every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (which are game days). Practice begins at 3:00 promptly and ends at 4:00.

Requirements for practice

* We ask that all players come to practice with the correct equipment including: glove, pants, hat and cleats.

We will check out practice pants to players in need, and have a few sizes of cleats we can check out as well, although we do encourage parents to purchase these items, especially if your child has a desire to continue playing baseball in the future. Cups are not required but recommended.

* Students must be at school and at all weekly practices in order to play in Friday's games.

• If a student has an excused absence from the office due to sickness, they are elligible.

• If a student receives Detention, then the consequence is either not starting, or not playing at all. If a student is ineligible, they will not dress out on Friday, nor ride the bus on away games. Please see eligibility chart below.

All games will be played on Fridays. Junior Varsity/B team will begin around 2:00 and all A team/Varsity Games will begin at 2:45. Please see schedule for information on Home or Away games. All Varsity games will have a scheduled umpire. JV games will be umpired by both coaches or assistant coaches.
