Welcome to the 2024-2025 school year!
This is my seventh year teaching at Alta Sierra Intermediate and I am very excited for this school year. I will be teaching the Direct Instruction Science and Study Strategies, in addition to supporting 7th grade Read 180. Prior to Alta Sierra, my teaching experience was at the university level.
I entered the teaching profession from the mental health field. For 10 years, I worked with both adults and children in a variety of settings including: group homes, inpatient facilities (hospitals), forensic settings, outpatient clinics, homeless shelters, along with many others. I have had a variety of roles within the mental health field, but I have found that a caring and collaborative effort between working professionals and families has produced the greatest achievement outcome. Over the years, I have learned that humans are amazing, resilient beings and can overcome barriers previously thought to be insurmountable. I am looking forward to partnering with my students, their support system, and my colleagues to support each student's mind, body, and spirit.
I am originally from Southern California, graduating from Centennial High School. After high school, I attended California Baptist University for both my undergraduate (psychology) and graduate degrees (forensic psychology), and I obtained Masters of Education from Alliant International University.
I've played sports my entire life. In high school, I played water polo, swam competitively, and ran cross country. By college, I focused my attention on water polo after receiving an athletic scholarship. I currently train jiu-jitsu.
I enjoy jiu jitsu, reading, being outdoors, woodworking, and spending time with my family. I am most at peace when I am immersed in nature, whether it be the beach or the mountains.
I have two beautiful children, an amazing husband, and one french bulldog who wraps up our quirky family.
