I've been teaching in Clovis Unified since 1997. Since that time I have taught 2nd and 4th at Tarpey elementary, then 7th and 8th grades at Alta Sierra. While you were on vacation, I signed up (yes, I sign up willingly) to teach somewhere, something, to anyone who will sit down long enough for me to get a word in. I've also taught 3rd, 5th, 6th. 7th, 8th and 9-12TH grades for students who needed extra help. The past 28 years I've taught a variety of subjects during summer school for original or recovery credit. 9-12 English, World Geography, World History, US History. All of these experiences have given me a great perspective on the educational process and key educational milestones as students matriculate through the grade levels of school.
I've been coaching in the district since 1995. I walked on to coach wrestling at Tarpey elementary as a favor for my old high school principal, then he hired me to be a teacher at Tarpey. I've been teaching and coaching ever since. I have coached Wrestling (all levels), Boys Volleyball, Track, and Football.
These years of experience have taught me: wasted talent is one of the biggest tragedies; hard work does pay off-not always in terms of trophies, but personal growth matters; building up just one facet of an athlete never yields long lasting success; perform in such a way that the referee/umpire/judge and or spectators have no doubt who won; control the things you can-endurance/strength/mental focus/technique; little (attitude, techniques, tenacity) adjustments can pay big dividends; be teachable regardless of success.
*I like to cook! Simply because, I like to eat. A porterhouse steak is my all time favorite thing to eat. My favorite things to cook are breakfast, Mexican, and BBQ anything!
* One of my hobbies is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. I have been training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2013 and got my black belt in 2020. I was recently promoted to first degree black belt in 2023. I also have competed in tournaments and hope to get a few in this year. So, if I show up to class limping or with bruises or the occasional black eye, it happens.
* I'm a recovering video game junkie. FPS make me dizzy...Just the old school games for me now days...
* Never went to any prom or formal in high school, but went to every Sadie Hawkins dance.
* Participated in championship winning sports teams (in different sports) grades 4th,5th,6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 12th. SO...I've learned that winning is fun, but it requires a lot of hard work.
* I can dance and twice participated in tap dance recitals (I was 5...don't judge).
* I have had a ton of really hard and crummy jobs to get to where I am today-MY DREAM JOB TEACHING... Before teaching I worked in: construction-putting stucco on houses; cleaning offices and bathrooms as a janitor; ice cream man-yes I drove a truck around selling ice cream to kids; worked in an all girls group home, even telemarketing where you call people at home; delivered the Fresno Bee in 6-8th grades. My first job was knocking on doors and hustling to do yard clean up or mowing to buy my first pair of original red and black Jordans.
* Once hit three home runs in one church softball game...otherwise I'm terrible. The next four weeks I never got on base...
* I dislike Disneyland with a passion-however love to take my family there since they LOVE it....*UPDATE: I went to Disneyland this summer and LOVED IT!*
