About Me

I am Mrs. Urrutia...

This fall will be my 18th year teaching high school English. I taught for 13 years at Sanger High School and have many fond memories of that time in my life. However, moving to Clovis High School four years ago was an important step for my family, as it allowed me more time with them.

I have taught all high school grade levels, but most of my experience has been in 9th & 10th grade. I taught 10th grade honors English for 11 years, and last year was my second year teaching AP Literature & Composition. I enjoy working with students and look forward to a great year.

Family

My husband and I have four daughters, ranging in age from 2 1/2-11 years old. Needless to say, we stay pretty active and busy. Additionally, we have 2 big dogs, 2 cats, and 4 chickens. There is never a dull moment in the Urrutia home!

Education

I graduated with a BA in English from Fresno State University, and earned my teaching credential from there as well.

Extracurriculars

I enjoy working with students outside of class as it affords me the opportunity to develop a closer relationship with them and see them flourish in ways that are personally meaningful to them. I have been a Dive coach and class advisor. However, now that I am a wife and mother I have less time to work in these roles. Luckily, I do still work with students in another capacity.

This year is my fourth year as the NHS advisor for Clovis High School, and once again, I get to work with amazing students who are very driven to succeed and make the most of their education.

For Fun

I have many interests, including crafting and creating DIY projects for my home, baking, singing, reading, and spending time with my family (notice the Oxford comma!).

I have so many favorite books I cannot list them all here. I would be remiss though if I did not share my love for the Harry Potter series! I began reading the books while I was in college, as they were being published. I was one of those fans who preordered books from Borders (back when we had that store in Fresno), and waited at midnight for the book to be released! Now I get to relive the story with my two oldest daughters, who also love Harry Potter.
