Cornell Notes

  1. OPEN the template in a new tab
  2. MAKE A COPY
  3. Rename your copy Cornell Notes using the chapter and section numbers (ex Cornell Notes Ch 1-1)
  4. The topic is the title of the section (ex Life In Ancient Rome)
  5. Write the essential question
  6. SCAN the text (DO NOT READ), focusing on the essential question
      1. Look at the headings and subheadings
      2. Look for key words
      3. Look at graphs, maps, pictures and captions
      4. Scan the text a second time

7. Write 3-5 questions you have about the text (left column)

8. READ the text-noting answers to your questions (right column)

9. RE-READ the text

10. SUMMARIZE the text in 3-5 sentences
