What is Read 180?

Read 180 is a Reading Intervention class, made to target a student at their level and build them up to grade level reading. It is for students who are struggling readers. For more information, check out the video to the left!

Mindset Matters

One of the first lessons we go through with students is that Mindset Matters. Studies show that when we have a "growth mindset" we are more likely to succeed! Knowing this is important as we embark on our journeys to become better readers.

How is Read 180 different than a regular Academic Block class?

A typically day in Read 180 looks much different than a regular AB since we strictly focus on reading intervention and writing strategies. We start the class in whole group for the first half, and then switch into small groups were students rotate into three different groups. The groups consist of reading independently, the Read 180 Student Application, and a group with an activity facilitated by the teacher. Students will work with others on a daily basis.

How can we support at home?

READ. READ. READ. Studies have shown that reading for 30 minutes a day is the BEST way for children to build their reading skill. Reading is like exercising or learning an instrument. We have to practice to get better! Reading as a family is a great way to accomplish this, model fluent reading!
