The assessment for 2024 at Year 9 and 10 will include short answer and skills questions and a written assessment.
Duration: 2 hours
Students will need:
A ruler
A blue or black pen
An eraser
A pencil
Colour pens/felts
They will not be permitted to take an revision materials (e.g A5 evidence sheets) into the examination.
If students finish before the assessment has finished, they will need to sit and wait quietly. No one is permitted to use a device.
The assessment will be based on conceptual understandings and key skills that have been taught throughout the year. This is set up very similar to the topic tests from throughout the year. For this, students need to ensure that they have been revising the key concepts and skills, and have brought with them the necessary items listed above, as they may be required to create a graph/map.
Year 10 students - the skills exam will be testing all of the skills that you have learned from Year 9 and Year 10 JSS. These will be tested in the context of Cities on the Brink, Rights and Wrongs and Battles and Bloodshed. To prepare for this, you need to ensure you are practising the key skills and revising key content from the case studies of each unit.
The assessment will be based on PEEL paragraph writing. Students will need to write an introduction, 3x PEEL paragraph and a conclusion. This is set up very similar to the written assessments from throughout the year. Students only write ONE essay.
Year 9 students already know the essay questions in the exam and have used their revision time to plan for this.
Year 10 students know the topics the essay question is on, however they don't know the wording of the question. Students have had time to revise and plan for this assessment.
