"Smell the sea and feel the sky. Let your soul and spirit fly!"

Dear Parents/Carers,

What a warm week it has been! Thank you to so many of you who provided ice poles during the hottest days. The children were so resilient through the heat this week and thank you to the Maundene Community for the continued support.

On Monday, many of Blackbirds children shared their sporting awards with their class. The images of them are below in our 'Congratulations' section. It was wonderful for the children to share their successes with their peers - well done on your achievements!

On Tuesday, it was extremely hot! Many of the children enjoyed ice poles together and some even investigated water through the use of a tough tray. Year 2 conducted an investigation in the heat where they tried to cook an egg outside. We can confirm, the egg did cook! Alongside this, Year 3 an 4 were very excited to participate in a karaoke session of Summer songs. The children loved showcasing their talents.

On Wednesday, Year 6 performed their production entitled, 'Darwin Rocks' to their parents. The children were incredible and showcased their many talents. We were so proud of them and know the parents were too. Thank you to everyone who supported with this event and to the children and teachers for organising such a successful production.

On Thursday, the children in Woodpeckers had their party for raising the most money from the Colour Run. The party was organised by the PTA and yet again, it was fantastic. The children loved eating candyfloss and dancing their afternoon away. In addition to this, Year R were extremely excited for their movie afternoon after raising money for their colour run. Thank you to the PTA for organising this!

Alongside this, Twinkle Stardust (Maundene's resident fairy), who lives in Emily's Garden, has enjoyed reading the notes left by Mabel and Ella in Year 1. She gave them some fairy colouring in pictures as a thank you.

Today it was the Year 6 Leavers Assembly and what an emotional one it was! The children have been an absolute asset to Maundene and have made us so proud over the years. We know they will continue to work hard and strive for the best in their lives. Remember, you are always welcome back to visit us. We love hearing about your future successes and new ventures. Thank you to all of the parents and carers for their continued support during their time with us over the years.

What a brilliant year it has been! Thank you to the Maundene Community for making the school the place it is today. The children do us all proud on a daily basis and they are the reason we are all doing what we do. We cannot thank you all enough.

Please have a well-deserved break. We look forward to seeing you all back at school after the summer holidays.

Miss Capes, Mrs Jackson and the Maundene Team

Equality, Diversity & Inclusion

Diversity - Religion - Judaism

Judaism is the original of the three Abrahamic faiths, which also includes Christianity and Islam.

Judaism originated in the Middle East over 3500 years ago. It was founded by Moses, although Jews trace their history back to Abraham. Jews believe that there is only one God with whom they have a covenant. In exchange for all the good that God has done for the Jewish people, Jewish people keep God’s laws and try to bring holiness into every aspect of their lives. Judaism has a rich history of religious text, but the central and most important religious document is the Torah. Jewish traditional or oral law, the interpretation of the laws of the Torah, is called halakhah. Spiritual leaders are called Rabbis. Jews worship in Synagogues.

Here is a link to more information about Judaism:

As a school, we build a variety of reiligions and cultures into our curriculum and through assemblies to expand and develop the children's knowledge. If you have any questions please speak to Miss Kasabi, our Equality and Diversity Leader.

Congratulations!

Oracy

At Maundene, we believe that Oracy is fundamental to the learning process and children's development.

Oracy is our ability to communicate effectively using spoken language. It is the ability to speak eloquently, articulate ideas and thoughts, influence through talking, listen to others and have the confidence to express your views. These are all skills that support success in both learning and life beyond school.

Therefore, we have decided that we are going to add an Oracy task in our weekly newsletter. This is an optional activity but it is being provided to encourage you and your child to discuss an image, scenario, quote or video each week. The four different strands of Oracy are provided below with key skills for your children to focus on when they are participating in a discussion with you at home.
