Classroom

English Language Arts

Daily Reading: Your child should be reading a chapter book & read at least 20 pages from it daily. This should take about 20-30 minutes.

Word Wisdom: Fourth grade uses Word Widom for spelling & vocabulary.  Your child's spelling list and vocabulary definitions will typically come home on Wednesdays and will be tested on them the following Tuesday.  I will have them write their spelling words in their Assignment Books as well.  Please have your child study their definitions and practice writing their spelling words daily.

Writing: Students will have a journal that they keep at school to work on.  Some of the writings they will work on in their journals will be: responding to questions about their chapter books, short paragraph writing prompts, writing rough drafts to narrative, persuasive, and expository writings, and creative writing.

Mathematics

Go Math: We will be using the Envision Math series. I will send home math reteach pages for each unit for students who may need a little extra practice. I highly recommend doing each one after that lesson was taught in class to help cement learned skills. I will also send home practice tests for all students to work on before tests are given. Please follow directions on how & when those need turned in.

Math Facts: Please make sure your child learns their math facts!  Please work on math facts at home daily (about 10 minutes each day).   Students need to be fluent on multiplication, division, subtraction, and addition.  We will begin multiplying 2 by 2 digit numbers and long division in a couple of months.  Math is so much easier if students know their facts! Timed tests will be given regularly in class.  They will consist of 40 problems that need to be completed in 2 minutes.

Math4Today: Students will be working on Math4Today daily in class.  We will go over the answers as students grade their own.  A Math4Today (MFT) Quiz will be given every Thursday on full weeks. Please have your child study their Math 4 Today paper that is sent home on Wednesdays (on a full week).  This will help them do well on their MFT Quiz on Thursday.
