The Power of "YET"

When Sophie Thinks She Can't by Molly Bang

  • "When Sophie Thinks She Can't" - read aloud CLICK HERE

Even though school is challenging right now, you can be successful with a "growth mindset." Our brains grow as a result of effort and effective strategies!! So,
Bunker Bobcats don't give up! You may not be able to do something "YET", but with practice and persistence you will!!!! Listen and read along to "When Sophie Thinks She Can't" by Molly Bang. You too will say, "I'm Getting SMARTER!"

Have fun practicing with the tangram template below. Cut out all seven pieces, they can be arranged to create animal puzzles, just look up Tangrams online!! MATH IS FUN!!!

Tangram Template- A tangram is a geometric Chinese puzzle made of a square that is divided into five triangles, a square, and a parallelogram. The pieces can be arranged into many shapes.

Compromise and finding a "Win-Win" Solution

Compromising is a skill that you can learn and develop. It is not always easy to compromise and give up something you want. Try to think of how the other person feels and how you would feel if you never got what you wanted. Watch this video to see how these kids compromised and both people were able to get something they wanted. That is called a "win-win" when both people get some of what they wanted. Try this strategy the next time you are not agreeing with someone and look for a way for both of you to win.

Give your MOM some extra love for the awesome MOM things she does for you. Mother's Day is Sunday May 10th.

Bunker Friends,

I hope you are hanging in there. Let's stay positive and stay strong to finish the year.

You know I think Kid President is awesome. He loves to spread kindness and positivity. Here is a little message from him to share with your moms. It made me laugh a little and cry a little. All our moms (and dads) are working so hard doing extra jobs they didn't have to do before the stay home order. So please take time to give your mom some extra love and thanks on Mother's Day!

Earth Day 2020

Earth Day is an annual event celebrated around the world on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First celebrated in 1970, it now includes events coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network in more than 193 countries.

This is a great time to think of a way we can all help protect our Earth. A positive thing about us all staying home is that the Earth is having some time to refresh and renew. Pollution is less, plants are able to grow and animals are roaming around more. The Earth needs this time to renew. Think of a way you can Reuse, Reduce, or Recycle to help improve our environment and keep our Earth happy!

Responsibility Scavenger Hunt

Hello Friends! I hope you have been having a good week getting back to learning. I also hope you have some time to check out my page. I found some fun mindfulness videos that can help you relax and focus your mind. Do them before you start your school work just like we did when I would come to your class. When we clear and focus our minds we can get a lot more done. There are 19 different Mind Yeti videos. Let me know your favorite one. Send me a picture of you doing some activities through a Google slide (schetawn).

Hello from Mrs. Scherck! I am sending you a big air hug to say I am thinking of you and wishing you the best as we tackle this new way of learning and spend some time apart. Check this page when you want have fun with Mrs. Scherck. I will be adding some videos that you might enjoy to keep you motivated and in a positive mindset for this at home learning time.

I want you to know we are very excited to start teaching you even though we can't be in the building together. Your teachers have been working so hard to get things ready for you. There may be some bumps in the road since this is new for all of us, but if we are patient and work together I know we can have a great experience.

Here is my first video to you. This is just a check in, but I will plan to have more fun and interactive videos coming. Please check back for more.
